Chinese New Year Parade
All of the kindergarten classes delighted us with a Chinese New Year Parade. Each of the students made a beautiful mask as they marched to the sound of music and shakers.

Totem Pole Construction by Ms. Carmody and Ms. Shebitz
We are certainly becoming creative and "GREEN" artists! Our students are now more familiar (both pyhsically and intellectually) with Native American Totem Poles. Ms. Carmody read a book to the students last week about totem poles and Ms. Shebitz helped the class to build one representing their own class family. Each student had the opportunity to create his/her own "person" out of recycled milk jugs, fake fur, buttons, yarn and raffia. Each student mixed and blended the paint to match his/her own skin color. They briefly spoke about their differences, while observing the different colors that should be mixed together to create different tones. What joy and laughter the students had when they began stacking the jugs on top of eachother as it climbed all the way to the ceiling!

Kindergarten 9/11/09
On Friday, September 11th, we had our first kindergarten assembly to talk to the children about the importance of Patriot Day. We talked about what the word "patriot" means and the significance of this day. We said the Pledge of Allegiance together as a school community and listened to a patriotic song. The children also sang "This Land is Your Land."
Thank you to Coach Hudson, Coach Steingasser, and Beth Fox for their help with this assembly.
